How Does the Ireland Visa Decision List for New Delhi Work?
Indian applicants apply through the New Delhi Visa Office (NDVO), part of the Embassy of Ireland in India.
The Embassy says each morning, by about 11:00 Indian Standard Time, it publishes a list of visa outcomes made so far this year, up to the previous day (Embassy of Ireland, India).
The list is a spreadsheet (.ods file) with two columns: your application number and the decision, either Approved or Refused.
It covers every visa type decided in New Delhi, not only study visas. Visit, business, employment and join family decisions are in the same file.
The list is cumulative. Once your number appears, it stays there for the rest of the year.
There are no names, passport numbers or personal details in it, and this checker stores none either.
How Do You Use This Checker?
1. Find your application reference number
It’s the 8-digit visa application reference number you got when you applied online through AVATS. You’ll find it on your application summary.
2. Type it in the box above
Spaces, dashes and other characters are ignored, so you can paste it straight in.
3. Read the result
- Approved: your visa has been granted. Your passport comes back through VFS Global.
- Refused: your application was refused. Your letter explains the reasons and whether you can appeal.
- Not in the latest list: no decision has been published for that number yet, or the number was mistyped.
4. Confirm on the Embassy website
Download the official list from the Embassy page and search for your number there too. Your decision letter is the final word.
What Does “Not in the Latest List” Mean?
Usually, it just means your decision hasn’t been made yet.
The Embassy processes applications in date order, and its processing times count working days from the day your documents reach the Embassy, not the day you applied online.
Those times don’t include getting a VFS appointment, courier time from VFS to the Embassy, or sending your passport home afterwards.
Here are the usual New Delhi timeframes, as last updated by the Embassy on 17 September 2026:
| Visa category | First decision | Appeal decision |
|---|---|---|
| Study | 4–8 weeks | 6 calendar months |
| Employment (Category A) | 4–6 weeks | 6 calendar months |
| Employment (Category B) | 8–10 weeks | 6 calendar months |
| Join Family | 6–12 months | 12 calendar months |
| Visit | 6–8 weeks | N/A |
| Business / Conference / Event | 4 weeks | N/A |

The Embassy lists common reasons for delays:
- Biometrics: clearance is needed before any decision for applicants in India, and you may be asked to re-scan at the Visa Application Centre.
- In-depth verification: banks, sponsors or employers may be contacted. Easily verifiable documents, such as DigiLocker documents, help.
- Interview: you or your sponsor may get a phone call. The Embassy number is 011 49403200, so answer calls from it.
- Ineligibility: files that don’t meet the criteria go to a secondary review before refusal, which takes longer.
The Embassy also says it won’t reply to status update requests, so contacting it won’t speed anything up.
For study applications, it warns that files submitted less than 3 weeks before your course starts can’t be guaranteed a decision in time.

Read these as a trend, not your personal odds.
The Department notes that a decision issued in one year may relate to an application received the year before, and that the figures may change after data cleansing.
Across all nationalities, Ireland received 26,254 long-stay study visa applications in 2025 and refused 10,309 at first instance (Dáil written answer 361, 25 June 2026).

What Should You Do If Your Visa Is Refused?
First, don’t panic, and don’t rush a new application.
A refusal comes with a letter that lists the reasons, often as short codes, and tells you whether you can appeal.
1. Wait for your refusal letter
The list only shows the outcome. The reasons are in the letter that comes back with your passport.
2. Decode every reason
Our guide to Ireland student visa refusal codes and appeals explains what each code means and how to fix it.
3. Decide: appeal or reapply
- Appeal if you believe the officer got it wrong. Appeals are free, but your appeal must arrive within 2 months of the date on your letter, and a study appeal in New Delhi usually takes 6 calendar months.
- Reapply if your file had gaps that you can now fill, or if your course date can’t wait for an appeal. You pay the visa fee again and must declare the earlier refusal.
4. Fix the weak spots before you try again
Money is the most common problem area. Check our guide to proof of funds for an Ireland student visa.
Then rebuild your file step by step with our Ireland student visa from India guide.
Got Approved? Here’s What Comes Next
- Collect your passport from VFS or wait for courier delivery.
- Check the visa sticker: your name, passport number and travel dates.
- Book flights only after the visa is in your passport. The Embassy says earlier bookings are at your own risk.
- After you land, register with immigration for your IRP and Stamp 2.
- Sort your student accommodation in Ireland early, especially in Dublin.
