Picking the best universities in Ireland for Indian students is harder than reading one ranking table.
Ireland has 7 traditional universities and 5 technological universities, and they differ a lot.
A Trinity master’s can cost almost double a regional TU master’s.
A double room in Dublin city centre costs about 75% more than one in Kerry.
And the ranking you see on an agent’s poster may be two editions old.
In this guide, you’ll learn how every Irish university ranks in QS 2027, what each one costs, where it is, which scholarships Indian students can get, and how to pick the right one for your career.

Which Scholarships Can Indian Students Get at Each University?
Most awards are fee reductions, not cash, so budget for the full living cost.
- UCD: Global Excellence Scholarships cover 50% or 100% of tuition, and 2027/28 applications open in November (UCD).
- Trinity: Global Excellence PG awards are €2,000–€5,000, but exclude business, engineering, science and CS (TCD). For those fields, E3 scholarships of €2,000–€5,000 have deadlines of 1 February, 15 March and 1 May 2027 (TCD E3).
- UCC: a first-class degree earns 20% off tuition on 2027/28 taught master’s in Science, Engineering and Food Science (UCC).
- Galway: Global Excellence and Merit Scholarships run across colleges (Galway), such as €2,000 in Arts, Social Sciences and Celtic Studies (Galway CASSCS).

- TU Dublin: 15 Postgraduate Global Entry awards of €2,000 and five Faculty Excellence awards of €5,000 (TU Dublin).

On top of these, the government’s GOI-IES offers 60 scholarships covering tuition plus a €10,000 (₹10.6 lakh) stipend (HEA).
See our Government of Ireland Scholarship guide for eligibility and deadlines.
When Are the Intakes and What English Score Do You Need?
September is the main intake for almost every master’s.
For example, UCC’s MSc Computing Science starts on 6 September 2027, with non-EU applications closing no later than 15 June (UCC).
A smaller number of postgraduate courses start in January, so check each course page.
For English, many universities ask for IELTS 6.5 with no band below 6.0, including DCU and Galway.
Some courses and scholarships ask for more, so read the exact requirement before you book a test.
Once you hold an offer, follow our Ireland student visa guide.
How Should You Choose the Right University?
The best universities in Ireland for Indian students pass these five checks for your course, so run them before you pay any deposit.
1. Confirm the Course Is TrustEd or ILEP-Listed
Your course must be immigration-eligible for a Stamp 2 student permission (Citizens Information).
ILEP is being replaced by the TrustEd Ireland mark, and you can check providers on trustedireland.ie.
2. Check the NFQ Level and Your Stamp 1G Time
A level 9 master’s gives you up to 24 months on Stamp 1G, while a level 8 Higher Diploma gives 12 months (ISD).
Our Stamp 1G Ireland guide explains how to apply.
3. Compare the Total Cost
Add tuition, rent and living costs, then subtract any automatic scholarship.
For example, UL’s AI and ML MSc plus 12 months of average rent comes to about €29,000 (₹30.7 lakh).
DCU’s MSc in Computing plus north Dublin rent comes to about €36,200 (₹38.4 lakh).
4. Look at Employability Data
In QS 2027’s Employment Outcomes indicator, Trinity ranks 63rd and UCD 100th worldwide.
Also ask each course for placement options and graduate job data before you accept.
5. Match the City to Your Industry
Dublin has the most tech and finance roles, but also the highest rent.
Cork, Galway and Limerick give you lower costs and a smaller, quieter student life.
The Bottom Line: Which Is the Best University for You?
The best universities in Ireland for Indian students are the ones that fit your course, budget and career goal.
Trinity and UCD lead the rankings, but UL, Maynooth and the TUs can save you lakhs.
Why pay a Dublin premium if your course and career are stronger elsewhere?
Shortlist three, compare the total cost, and apply early for September 2027.
