What Is an MSc in Data Analytics in Ireland?

It’s a taught master’s that trains you to collect, clean, model and explain data.

Most courses mix programming, statistics, machine learning, databases and visualisation.

Many end with a research project or a practicum on a real problem.

In Ireland, you’ll see three names for very similar courses:

  • Data Analytics: usually run by a computing school, with a technical focus.
  • Data Science: often heavier on statistics, maths and machine learning.
  • Business Analytics: run by business schools, with more on decisions, strategy and AI in business.

The title matters less than the modules.

So read the module list before you pick a course on its name alone.

Which Irish Universities Offer an MSc in Data Analytics?

Here are the main options, with the latest non-EU fee each college publishes.

Not every course is called “Data Analytics”, so we’ve listed the closest data course at each college under its real name.

Galway’s figure includes a €150 student levy, and other colleges may add small levies on top, so check your final invoice.

NCI is a private college, while the others are public universities or technological universities.

1. The Dublin Options

Dublin has the most choice, from Trinity and UCD to DCU, TU Dublin and NCI.

TU Dublin’s one-year MSc Data Analytics takes both computing and non-computing graduates, with modules matched to your background (TU Dublin).

DCU’s course includes a summer practicum where you build a prototype data analytics system for a real-world problem (DCU).

Trinity’s MSc in Computer Science – Data Science takes one calendar year: two teaching semesters, then a dissertation from April to August (Trinity).

NCI’s MSc in Data Analytics runs over three semesters and includes a practicum or internship.

Rent is the catch, so read our Dublin guide before you choose.

2. The Regional Options

Cork, Galway, Limerick and Maynooth cost less to live in than Dublin.

UCC’s Data Science and AI master’s is run jointly by its computer science and mathematical sciences schools, and starts on 6 September 2027.

Galway’s course is aimed at strong computing graduates and includes a Programming for Data Analytics module.

MTU, Maynooth and TUS are the cheapest public picks in the table.

How Much Does an MSc in Data Analytics in Ireland Really Cost?

Tuition is only half the bill.

You’ll also pay rent, food, transport, insurance and a €300 immigration registration fee.

A Minimum First-Year Budget in Rupees

Here’s our calculation for the cheapest realistic route, MTU after its scholarship.

Item Amount In rupees
Tuition after scholarship €12,000 ₹12.7 lakh
Living costs (the minimum ISD wants you to show) €10,000 ₹10.6 lakh
Health insurance (Study and Protect, one-year course) €229 ₹24,300
IRP registration €300 ₹31,800
Total €22,529 ₹23.9 lakh

At UCC’s €29,614 fee, the same budget comes to about €40,143 (₹42.6 lakh).

The €10,000 is the visa minimum, not what most students spend, especially in Dublin.

Our cost of studying guide breaks down real living costs city by city, and our health insurance guide compares plans.

Scholarships That Cut the Fee

  • DCU: its Faculty of Engineering and Computing International Scholarship gives a €4,400 cut on the full-time 2027/28 non-EU fee for eligible courses, including the MSc in Computing (DCU fees).
  • Our calculation: €25,000 minus €4,400 leaves €20,600 (₹21.8 lakh), if DCU’s fee stays at that level.
  • MTU: a €3,000 scholarship on the MSc Data Science and Analytics brings the 2026/27 fee to €12,000 (₹12.7 lakh) (MTU fees).
  • NCI: its international prospectus lists scholarships of up to €5,000 on the €17,000 MSc in Data Analytics, for intakes from January 2027 (NCI prospectus).
  • TUS: its postgraduate brochure lists scholarships of up to €4,000 (TUS brochure).
  • Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship: a national award covering fees and a stipend, read our GOI-IES guide.
  • Other merit awards: more colleges offer partial awards, listed in our best universities guide.

Scholarships usually reduce the fee rather than pay your living costs.

So you’ll still need full proof of funds for your visa.

What Are the Entry Requirements?

Each university sets its own rules, but the pattern is clear.

They want a numerate degree and proof that you can code.

Course Minimum degree Other requirements
Trinity, Data Science Upper second-class (2.1) honours in computing or a related subject Evidence of computing skills and experience
UCC, Data Science and AI Second Class Honours Grade I in computer science or maths, or a strongly numerate degree Students without programming take Python modules
University of Galway, Data Analytics First Class Honours in a computing-heavy Level 8 degree (a good Second Class can be accepted on the programme director’s recommendation) IELTS 6.5 overall, 6.5 in writing, no band below 6.0
NCI, Data Analytics Level 8 honours (2.2 or higher) in a technical or numerate subject Prior programming experience; IELTS 6.0

Irish universities map Indian percentages to these classes in their own ways.

So check each university’s country guidance for India before you apply.

If You Don’t Have a Computing Degree

Commerce, economics and other non-coding graduates can still get in at some colleges.

NCI, for example, asks such applicants to show technical or maths skills through certifications, extra qualifications or assessment tests.

Business Analytics courses are often the easier fit if you’ve never coded.

A short online Python or SQL certificate can help your application.

How Do You Apply From India?

Most Irish universities take applications directly online, with rolling deadlines.

Places on popular courses can fill early, so don’t wait for the final date.

1. Shortlist Three to Five Courses

Compare modules, fees, city costs and whether there’s a practicum.

2. Prepare Your Documents

You’ll usually need degree transcripts, your degree certificate, an English test score, a CV, a statement of purpose and your passport.

Some colleges also ask for references.

3. Apply and Accept Your Offer

Pay the deposit only after you’ve checked the offer conditions.

4. Pay Fees and Show Funds

Your visa needs proof you’ve paid fees and can cover living costs.

Our proof of funds guide explains the €10,000 rule and how to show it.

5. Apply for Your Student Visa

Follow our step-by-step Ireland student visa from India guide.

If you’re short on time for September, consider the January intake where it’s offered.

Is Data Analytics on Ireland’s Critical Skills List?

Yes, several data roles are on the Critical Skills Occupations List (DETE).

  • Management consultants and business analysts specialising in big data analytics.
  • Actuaries, economists and statisticians specialising in big data analytics.
  • IT business analysts, architects and systems designers.
  • Programmers, software developers and other ICT professionals.

That matters, because a Critical Skills Employment Permit is the faster route to long-term residence.

The Salary Bar You’ll Need to Hit

Critical Skills route Minimum annual salary In rupees
Recent graduate, role on the list €36,848 ₹39.1 lakh
Standard, role on the list with a relevant degree €40,904 ₹43.4 lakh
Any eligible occupation €68,911 ₹73 lakh

Source: DETE, Critical Skills Employment Permit.

The graduate rate applies if you received your qualification in the 12 months before the permit application.

These bars aren’t fixed: DETE’s roadmap raised them on 1 March 2026 and plans further gradual rises through to 2030 (DETE roadmap).

So if you start in 2027, check the figure again in the year you graduate.

What Do Data Analytics Graduates Earn in Ireland?

No official source publishes pay for data analytics graduates alone.

The closest official figure is the CSO’s data for ICT graduates.

For 2022 graduates, the CSO puts the median weekly pay of Level 9 (master’s) ICT graduates one year after graduating at €855 (CSO table HEO12).

Our calculation: €855 × 52 is about €44,460 a year (₹47.1 lakh).

That’s above both Critical Skills bars for roles on the list.

But the bottom quarter earned €675 a week or less, which is about €35,100 a year (₹37.2 lakh), by our calculation.

That’s below the €36,848 graduate bar, so a permit-ready first job isn’t guaranteed.

Our is a master’s in Ireland worth it guide covers pay, tax and payback in detail.

How Long Can You Stay After Your MSc?

An MSc is a Level 9 award, so you can apply for Stamp 1G under the Third Level Graduate Programme.

ISD gives Level 9 graduates 12 months, with a further 12 months if you meet its conditions (ISD).

You can work full time on Stamp 1G while you look for a permit-eligible job.

Read our Stamp 1G guide and our overview of Irish immigration stamps.

While you study, Stamp 2 lets you work part time; see our part-time jobs guide.

What Mistakes Should You Avoid?

  • Choosing on the course name. A “data analytics” course with little coding won’t prepare you for technical roles.
  • Ignoring the practicum. A project with a real organisation gives you something concrete for your CV.
  • Comparing tuition only. A cheaper course in Dublin can cost more overall than a pricier one in Limerick.
  • Skipping the coding prep. Start Python and SQL before you land, not in week one.
  • Using an old fee. Fees rise most years, so always check the year printed next to the figure.
  • Applying late. Rolling admissions mean popular courses can close before the official deadline.

The Bottom Line: Is an MSc in Data Analytics in Ireland Worth It?

For students who can code and like numbers, it’s one of the strongest master’s choices in Ireland.

Fees run from €15,000 to €29,614, so shortlist by modules and total cost, not by brand alone.

Data analytics roles are on the Critical Skills list, and the graduate salary bar is €36,848.

Why pay the top fee if a cheaper course teaches the same skills and offers a practicum?

Shortlist three courses, check the 2027/28 fees, and build your coding portfolio now.
